Yes, We’ll Continue The Fight From The Ground Up

When we learned of the dismissal of several progressive members of the DNC, we saw the flurry of messages from friends, close allies and others who saw that move as proof things will never change for that body.  PDA has a different take.

The progressive champions we supported throughout the 2016 election season, including Bernie Sanders, reminded us often about how change really occurs — from the bottom up.  While the influence of corporate money and long-standing power are difficult to disrupt, we believe that process of disruption is well underway.

From the county and state party level right up to the DNC, more true progressive voices are emerging and the impact is real.

PDA has seen more people engage in their communities than ever before.  Did we think those who want to remain in control and protect their own self-interests would simply stand aside and welcome our progressivism? A good friend of mine once said to me, “The profits are dear.”  Of course they are.  The power is dear too.  People just do not easily concede control and influence.

So while we deplore the loss of some fine progressive forces through the DNC “progressive purge” and find it showed an incredible lack of leadership savvy, we intend to redouble our efforts to fill the county and state party organizations with strong progressives, field strong progressive candidates for 2018, and demand progressive policy positions and platform planks.  We stand ready for the struggle.  There is too much at stake for us to give in or give up.

PDA has never shied away from a fight because someone else said it couldn’t be done.  And we aren’t about to now when we have come this far.
