Tell Congress Not One Cent For Trump’s Racist Wall

As Trump’s Temper Tantrum continues, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) renews our demand for a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) without one cent for Trump’s worthless, wasteful, racist wall. I live in Illinois. We called our former Republican governor “Mini-Trump.” These facts are relevant because Illinois went 793 days (over 2 years) without a budget or funding, and we know first-hand what it is like to live under such dysfunctional fiscal conditions.

Tell Trump To Reopen Government With No Wall

Tell Congress To Demilitarize The Southern Border

Use our Action Alert to tell your members of Congress
not to cave in to Trump’s demands for a useless wall!

The cause was our Republican governor (a rich businessman who had never held public office or run a publicly-held firm), holding the state hostage to implement right-to-work laws and other regressive policies. Sound familiar? In the end, Republican lawmakers joined with the Democratic majority to pass a budget and override the governor’s veto.

State workers faced pay delays, vendors went unpaid for year-long and longer periods, state colleges and universities were heavily damaged and lost many bright students to other states, our population fell at a precipitous rate, businesses and social services shuttered their doors, and Illinois’ credit rating dived to junk bond status. The state budget impasse cost taxpayers billions of dollars and thousands upon thousands of hard-working longtime residents. Illinois will be recovering for years.

I review this story because the current resident of the White House and his complicit Republican enablers are doing the same gross disservice to our nation by refusing to reopen the government fully in hopes of getting partial funding for an unnecessary, ineffective, antiquated, destructive, and racist border wall.

Federal workers are furloughed or forced to work without pay, services are unavailable, court cases are backing up and legal challenges are mounting (as if the court system was not already bogged down), businesses and government contractors are going unpaid…and before you book an airline flight, ask yourself how well the TSA is really working to keep airways safe with reduced and over-worked staff, no pay, and fed-up colleagues calling in sick.

Contact your members of Congress and tell them to reopen the government now without wall funding. If any of your elected officials are Republicans, tell them you blame them for enabling the President’s intransigence and irresponsible behavior. If they’re Democrats, tell them to stand strong and insist on a fully opened government without any wall funding.

It’s up to us to force the action. If We the People push the Congress to act, they will act. Don’t let the United States become Illinois writ large. Illinois did make a big step forward—in 2018, voters kicked out the governor and a bunch of obstructionist Republican legislators, but only after two years of destruction and damage. If Trump carries out his threats to keep the federal government shut down for months or even years, the effects would be disastrous.

Help PDA fight to block the wall and restore government funding. Contact your members of Congress, then donate whatever you can to help us expand our efforts.

In solidarity,
