Solidarity Against the Storms this Labor Day

During this holiday weekend, our chance to relax and enjoy the closing weekend of summer is tempered by the knowledge that many of our brothers and sisters cannot celebrate with us. Our hearts go out to all the people in Harvey’s path who have been hurt or displaced, and those who’ve lost loved ones.

Join Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) in supporting National Nurses United (NNU)’s disaster relief fund. Please donate generously now!. In times of crisis, nurses have provided care and comfort to those in need and their communities.  We may not know where every organization calling for Hurricane Harvey relief support uses its resources, but we do know about our sisters and brothers at NNU.  If you choose to and can afford to give financial support, please do so.

In yet another area of great concern for many thousands of people in the PDA base and millions around the nation, PDA is deeply concerned about the Trumpublican threats to dismantle the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.  We have already sent you a direct rapid response alert and urged you to engage in protesting this latest assault on the rights of up to 800,000 young “Dreamers” who followed the terms of the DACA program but now may face deportation if the program ends.

We set up an action alert to help you contact your Senators and Representative to support the Dream Act.  This piece of bi-partisan legislation ends the uncertainty and establishes a just, long-term solution to protest the Dreamers.

Please tell your elected officials to join Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Representatives Lucille Roybal- Allard (D-CA) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) cosponsoring the Dream Act.

It has been a difficult several months for millions of people in our nation and around the world.  One of the best ways we can comfort one another, resist injustice and insist on policy solutions that reach toward our higher ideals is to stand with one another against even the most threatening storms.  We are grateful you are with us on this journey toward a more just world for all.

In solidarity,

Donna Smith for Mike H., Deb, Mike F., Judy, Janis, Dan, Kimberly, Bryan, Dr. Bill, and Amos—Your PDA National Team

P.S. We need your help now. Contact your Senators and Representative and ask them to cosponsor the Dream Act. No time to volunteer? Please donate $500, $50, or whatever you can afford now to help PDA’s allies the National Nurses United’s disaster relief fund.

THE INCONVENIENT UGLY TRUTH: No one should be surprised by Donald’s continued divisive and hatefullled actions! Let’s be clear, any action by Donald to end DACA is intended for the sole purpose to destroy the lives of nearly 800,000 so-called “Dreamers,” young people that the only Country they have ever known and their roots are here with loyalty to the United States of America. They would be for all intents and purposes Americans but for a minority of mean spirited House Republican’s political Obstruction and failure to pass any needed Immigration Reform for past 21 years during Republican and Democrat Presidents.
