PDA Says: #HandsOffVenezuela and we ask:
“Is This About Human Rights Or Drilling Rights?”

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2004, at the height of the illegal war in Iraq. We had a slogan back then, “No Blood For Oil!” We understood that Iraq had nothing to do with the September 11th attacks, and that the Bush/Cheney Administration officials were lying to all of us about it. Now it’s déjà vu, all over again.

Today, as we’re once again on the brink of military action against an oil-rich nation, we have a burning question: Why is it that we ignore massive human rights violations (and even support atrocities), but rush to attack people who have the bad luck of living above proven oil reserves? As part of our ongoing efforts to end wars and occupations, PDA endorses Code Pink’s urgent message of peace and human rights. Join Code Pink and PDA saying:
“No Coup! Hands Off Venezuela!”

Please Give Now To Support Our Organizing For Peace!

Code Pink explains:

“We’re calling on Democrats to follow Rep. Ilhan Omar’s advice: ‘If we really want to support the Venezuelan people, we can lift the economic sanctions … We should support dialogue, not a coup!’ #HandsOffVenezuela”

Code Pink’s action alert reads (in part):

The U.S. is orchestrating a coup in Venezuela that is likely to lead to bloodshed—even civil war. Instead of meddling the internal affairs of another country, the U.S. should be supporting peaceful dialogue facilitated by mediators such as Mexico, Uruguay, and the Pope.

We have seen, and are seeing now at the U.S.-Mexico border, the effects of past U.S. backed coups in Latin America — Guatemala in 1953, Chile in 1973, Honduras in 2009. It always turns out disastrous for the people.

Send a message now to the Democrats in Congress that they must not stay silent. So far only Senator Sanders and Representatives Khanna, Gabbard, Ocasio-Cortez, Lee, and Omar have spoken out and some—such as Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Adam Schiff—have actually supported Trump.

Tell the Democrats to follow Senator Sanders and Representatives Khanna, Gabbard, Ocasio-Cortez, Lee, and Omar and call for peaceful dialogue. The coup attempt must be condemned.
