This week, the world is up another almost 2,600,000 known new cases to almost 40 million total cases now of #COVID19, and almost 1.1 million total deaths in this global #pandemic.

CNN in London is reporting that European countries are currently smashing records for daily #coronavirus cases and the World Health Organization (WHO) is warning that the daily death toll there could reach five times its April peak within the next few months.  They point out that countries that contained infection rates through the spring with aggressive lockdowns and more recently began relaxing measures like Germany, France, and the Czech Republic, are all seeing the virus now return with a vengeance in the past 2 or 3 days.  WHO Europe Director Hans Kluge told a news briefing just this last Thursday, “The fall/winter surge continues to unfold in Europe with exponential increases in daily cases and matching percentage in daily deaths.”

Here in the United States, COVID19 surges are still being seen especially in the Midwest and western mountainous region states.  New Mexico is reporting a doubling of its number of cases so far this month, with 3 record breaking days just this last week.

And yes, those states in the rust belt like Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin all have confirmed new COVID19 cases and deaths on the rise.  This is remarkable as well, as you might notice, because they have also all been popular destinations for Donald Trump’s “super-spreader” campaign events at which he is notably apt to never even mention the pandemic other than to say what a wonderful job he’s doing to “crush the virus” with whatever unproven snake oil he’s pushing this week.

In fact, it is now being reported that one of his still unproven “cures” that he was given for his own COVID19 episode was similar in design to one that has been more recently pulled from clinical trials due to safety concerns.

All of this of course is taking place as a background to the 2020 fall elections now underway, casting doubts as to our general preparedness in these last few weeks to handle any possible late surge of voters who still feel the need to wait until Nov 3^rd to cast their ballots.  Hopefully, that’s nobody in this virtual room.

And all of this is taking place of course with the ongoing struggle for economic and social justice imposed upon us all by corporate greed in the arenas of multiple existential threats including but not limited to rising global temperatures, #Healthcare, poverty, racism, and war.  It would seem that the elections and new leadership, along with #MedicareForAll and the #GreenNewDeal, just can’t come soon enough.
