Inclusion: The Real American Dream
By Dan O’Neal and Mike Hersh for Donna, Mike F., Judy, Dr. Bill, Janis, Deb, Kimberly, Bryan, and Amos—your PDA National Team
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) rejects racism, hate, jingoism, white supremacy, and xenophobia in all forms. Let’s be very clear—President Trump’s State of the Union Speech on Tuesday was jingoistic and full of hate. He strongly implied the DREAMers somehow hurt white people as he laid out his ugly, divisive, ignorant world view—basically advocating white supremacy.
Trump’s “Americans are dreamers, too” comments were not merely a snide twisted inversion of the slogan “DREAMers are Americans, too.” Trump’s words amount to dangerous xenophobia. He preyed on fears of “the other,” meaning young people without a blemish on their records. Click here to tell Congress to pass a clean Dream Act.
We need your help to send a loud message to Trump and the Congress: DREAMers are here to stay! Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to join the DREAMers Advocacy Team. I’ll send you information about protests in your city or state.
In the Washington, D.C. area, join protests and letter drops at Congressional offices to demand they pass a clean Dream Act as part of the Omnibus Spending Bill. Outside the D.C. area, join local actions organized by PDA, United We Dream, Our Dream Coalition, Indivisible, Move On and more. Contact me and I’ll get you connected with these actions.
Please click here to tell your Senators and Representative to join Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Representatives Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) cosponsoring the overwhelmingly popular bipartisan Dream Act. This is important because of the precarious situation endangering young people who were covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program until Trump targeted them for deportation.
We reject Trump’s reactionary White Nationalism and will continue to organize to fight against it at every step. If you agree, click here to ask your Senators and Representative to cosponsor a clean Dream Act. Remember, Trump caused this crisis back in September when he unilaterally ended the DACA program. Now he is using DREAMers as pawns, holding their futures for ransom to push his Wall / Border Security scams on the American public.
Stand up against xenophobia and hate. Contact me at email@example.com to join the DREAMers Advocacy Team. I’ll send you information about protests in your city or state. We demand a clean Dream Act. That means no useless, expensive wall. No oppressive immigration raids. No vindictive treatment of states and localities that protect basic constitutional rights. That means passing the bipartisan compromise to fix the broken immigration system without any side agreements that undermine American values.
Tell Congress that the solution to the current crisis that Trump created is simple: Pass a clean Dream Act Now! Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to join the DREAMers Advocacy Team. I’ll send you information about protests in your city or state.
PDA’s position favoring inclusive immigration policy is clear. Trump’s reactionary nationalism, framing the plight of DREAMers as somehow in competition with the working class, is dangerous xenophobia. Declaring that “Americans are dreamers, too” was certainly the saddest and sickest part of his speech. Do not tell us that “Making America Great Again” is all about creating walls and borders between us and them. We will not fall for it!
