Marie is calling for $15/hour minimum wage, repealing the Republican tax scam, rolling out Medicare For All, supporting the Green New Deal, rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban, expanding community college degrees and funding, removing the arbitrary deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, and ensuring women’s autonomy over their own bodies.

Sounds great, right? So, what’s the problem?

Marie is running against Dan Lipinski, an 8-term incumbent being protected by the DCCC. A member of the conservative Blue Dog Coalition, Lipinski opposes legalized abortion and stem cell research, and voted against the Affordable Care Act.

Rep. Cheri Bustos, current head of the DCCC, has issued an edict refusing to do business with vendors and political consultants who help progressives challenge sitting Democratic incumbents, and is personally fundraising for Lipinski. The DCCC has pressured three strategists to leave Marie’s campaign.

We cannot, must not, will not stand for this kind of anti-democratic behavior and intimidation within the Democratic Party. Show your support for Marie Newman and progressive challengers across the nation.

The congresswoman who leads House Democrats’ campaign arm announced Wednesday she would no longer headline a fundraiser for an anti-abortion incumbent congressman.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Cheri Bustos agreed months ago to host a $1,000-per-plate breakfast fundraiser for Rep. Dan Lipinski because of their friendship, a spokesman for Lipinski said. But criticism of her support for Lipinski grew louder this month amid the passage of laws severely restricting abortion in six states.
