Tell Your Senators to Pass the Dream Act Now!

The conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections from innocent young people who arrived here as children.

An outraged public is likely to hold massive protests. In support, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is escalating our campaign to demand that Congress pass the American Promise and Dream Act of 2019–also known as the Dream Act.

The House of Representatives already passed it (by a 237 to 187 vote); now the Senate needs to act. All House Democrats (joined by 7 Republicans) supported this legislation to grant permanent legal status and a path to citizenship for DREAMers. Now, we must force the Senate to act!

Call your Senators through the Capitol Hill switchboard at (202) 224-3121. An operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request.

Once connected, ask to speak to or leave a message for the chief of staff. Tell them to demand that Senate Leader McConnell bring the DREAM Act to the Senate floor for an up or down vote.

Trump’s racist, abusive treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers is cited by the People’s articles of Impeachment (PDF). So it’s no surprise that the “Racist-in-Chief” is lying by calling DACA recipients criminals.

“Many of the people in DACA, no longer very young, are far from ‘angels.’ Some are very tough, hardened criminals…..” tweeted Trump.

Trump’s vitriol has no grounding in reality because, in order to enroll in the program, DACA recipients must pass a criminal background check, and those who commit a crime can be stripped of their protections and deported.

The right-wing noise machine is constantly demonizing DREAMers and distorting the facts. Rep. Rodney Davis (IL-13) is just one example of these dishonest smear merchants.

Rep. Davis just wrote an Op-Ed in which he stated his objections to impeachment proceedings, including this nonsensical false claim: “[W]hen impeachment happens, nothing else in Congress gets done.”

Yet, this week alone, the House passed 5 bills to help returning veterans. The House acts as the Senate obstructs. In fact, the House passed the Dream Act on June 5, with seven Republican votes, but without any help from Mr. Davis or other extreme ideologues like him.

Of course since then, we’ve seen nothing but obstruction from Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the Senate—on immigration and too many other issues to count. “Moscow Mitch“ buriedthe Dream Act in committee on June 10, and there it still sits.

Call your Senators at (202) 224-3121, and tell them to get the Dream Act out of committee and on the books, for the sake of 700,000 DREAMERs and their families.

P.S. Visit our PDA Store and buy a DREAM Act bumper sticker to show your support and amplify our message of inclusion, as well as Impeach Trump, Healthcare Not Warfare, and many other messages.

PDA is working on election integrity and ending voter suppression; ending poverty and homelessness; outreach to rural, urban, minority, and younger progressives; as well as organizing on college campuses—and much more! We can’t do anything without your strong support.
