While #COVID19 numbers improve thanks mostly to the recovery from seasonal traveling and gathering indiscretions, we at Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) remain steadfast in our conviction that a #SinglePayer expanded and improved #MedicareForAll (MFA) system for universal Healthcare in the US is likely the bare minimum we will need to finally beat back this pandemic as well as to prepare for the next public health crises that climate scientists predict are heading our way.
The recently published report of the distinguished scientific journal The Lancet and its Commission on Public Policy and Health in the Trump Era confirms as much, noting likely as many as 40% of all US COVID19 deaths preventable if we had had such a system in place. Moreover, even prior to COVID, it is noted in the same report that as of the year 2018 we likely saw as many as 400,000 preventable deaths in the US for lack of such a system. *
PDA stands ready to push MFA and the #GreenNewDeal in the new Congress, and all of the way to the President’s desk, whether he chooses to sign it or not. We know, and COVID19 has only magnified our claim, that it will save money, lots of money, and save lives, lots of lives.
Join us this Sunday 4p ET / 1p PT, and every Sunday for the duration of the pandemic, for our PDA Healthcare Emergency Town Hall to discuss these and other related topics This week’s guest speaker will be MFA Resolutions organizer for Public Citizen and great friend of PDA Melinda St. Louis to update us on efforts nationwide to amass support, and to brief us on what’s in the works for the new bills due to be reintroduced very soon in the new Congress.
Can’t make it Sunday? Then please volunteer with PDA here, or donate here and help even more to get it done.
