Happy Pride Month! Let’s turn the tide.
Happy Pride Month!
We Stand with the LGBTQ+ Community
and Hope You Will Join Us
It’s been a long road for the LGBTQ+ community since the Stonewall Uprising, following a police raid on June 26, 1969.
While violence and discrimination against the community were still rife over the ensuing decades, there was progress. States began to recognize gay marriage, and then finally President Joe Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022.
This law certainly did not cover all of the discriminations against the LGBTQ+ community—including legal discrimination in employment and housing that exist to this day—but it was a moment to celebrate.
Unfortunately we’ve seen a virtual 180 degree backlash in states across the country—from Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” policies in public schools and book banning to a frightening increase in violent acts against members of the community, nationwide.
Plus, the same radicals on the Supreme Court that gave us the reversal on Roe v. Wade have made noises about overturning the ruling in the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges case, making the Respect for Marriage Act vulnerable.
We must combat all of this and be Loud and Proud in our support for all in the affected community.
1) At minimum, please attend a local pride event, and send us a selfie with a big joyous crowd around you so we can add it to our collage on social media. Send pics to mikefox@pdamerica.org
2) If you’d like to organize for PDA at such an event, contact mikefox@pdamerica.org and he’ll get you supplies and we’ll connect you with other local PDA folks.
3) f you want to be a part of our year-around LGBTQ+ National Organizing Team, contact mikefox@pdamerica.org.
5) If you want to help get Equality Champions elected to office, volunteer here and/or donate here.
We’ve been moving in the right direction for too long to tolerate any steps backwards!
Thanks so much for anything you can do.
In solidarity,
Mike for for the PDA National Team
