Tell Congress We Need A Green New Deal
Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced a resolution calling for a Green New Deal. PDA is profoundly grateful to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and the Sunrise Movement for bringing the Green New Deal movement to the forefront, and helping to bring this historic moment to fruition. PDA is committed to three essential steps—all to be implemented within the next ten years:
1 – 100% clean renewable energy
2 – Zero emissions
3 – Negative carbon emissions (drawdown)
PDA persistently declares that we are facing a climate emergency, and we will not stop demanding a whole-of-society mobilization to meet the moment. PDA will center ourselves in truth of the historic breakthrough, and of the science. The Sen. Ed Markey / Rep. Ocasio-Cortez resolution can still be strengthened further. PDA will stand for that truth through the coming months.
Mitigating and dealing with global climate change promises to be a prominent topic in the 2020 presidential and congressional campaigns. The Green New Deal is a sound roadmap for that debate.
At a time when scientists agree that urgent direct action to slow and reverse climate change is critical, this administration clogged by special interests and retrograde thinking. The Trumpublicans keep rolling back environmental and health protections at an alarming rate. The antidote is a strengthened Green New Deal, combining environmental sustainability and economic opportunity.
Help PDA fight for the most far-reaching, far-sighted policy initiative. Urge your members of Congress to support a Green New Deal. Then, please give generously now.
P.S. PDA’s board member Russell Greene took a leadership role in advocating for the “Global Climate Leadership” platform amendment that became part of the Democratic Party platform. Watch him in this video. We’re here to help you make progress in your state and locality! If you need help organizing a new PDA chapter or energizing your existing chapter, please contact PDA Field Coordinator Dan O’Neal. “global warming threatens extinction” appears to be an unsubstantiated opinion.
>One of the real problems is overpopulation: it must be stopped and “eventually” reduced to a sustainable level, say 2 to 3 billion max.
>Another real problem is the poisoning of our biosphere by burning fossil fuels (CO2 is NOT a pollutant!) and by a myriad of industrial processes.
>Don’t forget the waste of our natural resources by WE the people, who either don’t care or are too ignorant about our adverse impact on the environment.
