End Corporate Rule to Prevent Gun Violence

Last week’s deadly shooting at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit was one of 222 school shooting incidents in 2021, an all-time high, according to the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s K-12 School Shooting Database. Once again, warning signs were present and ignored or not sufficiently acted upon to prevent the tragedy of four deaths, seven injuries, and another community traumatized. Yet there has been no national outrage, no serious push to seek remedies through local or state or federal policy.

Since the mass shooting at Columbine High School in 1999, the National Rifle Association (NRA) has deliberately crafted a defiant response to mass shooting events, in tandem with the gun industry and compliant elected officials. Legislators at all levels are in thrall to and in abject fear of the gun lobby’s power to rouse absolutist Second Amendment defenders and pour corporate funds into elections and lobbying efforts. Once again, corporate profits take precedence over public safety and welfare.

Progressive Democrats of America fights overweening corporate power in gun safety policy, in the struggle against private prisons and detention centers, in the quest for universal healthcare, in support of net neutrality, and in our work to move toward a carbon-neutral energy policy. We must end the corporate stranglehold on America, and we need your help. Here’s how you can make a difference:

We are counting on you today and everyday.
