Help Realize Dr. King’s Dream; Demand
That The DOJ Protect Our Elections Now!
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2004 to achieve progress on key priorities, among them clean, fair, open and transparent elections. I worked with a national voter protection effort in D.C. convened by Barbara Arnwine, the president and founder of the Transformative Justice Coalition. We documented violations of voting rights from around the country. No state was worse than Georgia.
Starting well before Election Day, we heard credible reports of voting roll purges. On Election Day, we fielded complaints of closed and moved polling places, misleading information, voter intimidation, and more. Brian Kemp—responsible for running the elections and protecting voting rights in Georgia—violated his oath by using every dirty trick in the book to steal the gubernatorial election for himself. Tell The Dept. of Justice We Must Have Legitimate Elections
We Demand Elections We Can Trust!
Unless we have confidence in our elections, we cannot have confidence that our government is legitimate. We must demand respect for voting rights and integrity in elections in Georgia and everywhere in the USA. Sign the petition: tell the Justice Department to immediately investigate the reports of election fraud in Georgia.
We must not lose sight of the need for accurate, inclusive elections even as the 2020 presidential election cycle is beginning. Monday we celebrated a national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King—a champion for voting rights (see below). The Trump Administration and others are calling for regime change in Venezuela citing violations of voting rights there. Yet here in the USA, our elections are marred by outrageous violations!
As Barbara Arnwine and PDA’s friend John Nichols wrote in The Nation:
Noting the “open defiance” that was preventing implementation of the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education ruling, King suggested that the “betrayal” of disenfranchised Americans by politicians of both parties offered the ultimate argument for why the struggle for voting rights is so essential to the broader struggle for economic and social justice, environmental protection, and peace.
“The denial of this sacred right is a tragic betrayal of the highest mandates of our democratic tradition. And so our most urgent request to the president of the United States and every member of Congress is to give us the right to vote,” declared Dr. King, who continued:
Give us the ballot, and we will no longer have to worry the federal government about our basic rights … we will by the power of our vote write the law on the statute books of the South and bring an end to the dastardly acts of the hooded perpetrators of violence.
Give us the ballot, and we will transform the salient misdeeds of bloodthirsty mobs into the calculated good deeds of orderly citizens. Give us the ballot, and we will fill our legislative halls with men of goodwill and send to the sacred halls of Congress men who will not sign a ‘Southern Manifesto’ because of their devotion to the manifesto of justice.

PDA will never stop fighting for the realization of Dr. King’s vision for a truly democratic U.S.A. Will you help? Please pitch in whatever you can afford to support our organizing.
