Spread Holiday Cheer, not COVID:

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) wishes health and happiness to all on the occasion of this Christmas Day 2020.

Sadly, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now challenged in that wish on two fronts, both individual and institutional.

As we all have now seen, far too many individuals, using personal justifications and selective belief systems, disregard the advisement of science, and are contributing to the spread of the disease rather than its containment. This reckless behavior is being prompted by even more reckless politicians, willing to play off fears of personal loss of freedoms, and the selfishness that can leave others—including their own families, friends, coworkers, and fellow community members, especially our essential workers—even more at risk.

But even worse than these transgressions are those of the corporate class of manipulators and abusers, who are taking advantage of corrupt institutions to advance themselves in wealth and power. In particular, Big Insurance and Big Pharma, just like Wall Street and Big Banking, are making out like bandits during COVID-19, killing our frontline hospital workers by under-testing, under-tracing, and inadequate provision of staffing and PPE.

This pandemic makes it painfully clear that it’s time to get the money-changers out of the temple. Let the austerity measures begin with Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, and let We the People, who need to survive COVID-19 and those pandemics yet to come, have #MedicareForAll and the #GreenNewDeal.

Yes, clearly the path to health and happiness for all is with Medicare for All.  As the late US Senator Paul Wellstone told us, “We all do better when we all do better.”
