Last week Pres. Trump suggested he might send National Guard and active duty military troops to Chicago in the absence of an insurrection or other emergency to fight “rampant” crime in the city. 

On Monday, Gov. Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and dozens of state and local officials as well as activists, crime victims, and faith leaders held an extensive news conference encapsulated by Gov. Pritzker’s declaration: “Mr. President, do not come to Chicago. You are neither wanted here nor needed here.” Gov. Pritzker, other officials, and dozens of community organizations continue to push back against the federal occupation of Chicago. Trump has walked back his threat a bit, but now plans major immigration raids in Chicago, possibly as early as next week.
