Black History is American History
It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”—Frederick Douglass
“Don’t Agonize, Organize.”—Flo Kennedy
“We Won’t Go Back.”—Kamala Harris
The news is full of attempts to erase and rewrite American history into a straightjacket of white Christian nationalist propaganda.
This current administration attempts to denigrate Black History by altering websites, prying plaques from monuments and walls, renaming military facilities, scrapping currency and coinage designs, banning books, withholding funds from scientific research and cultural institutions, reducing opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, and spreading lies about Black leaders and communities.
In February 2026 we celebrate Black History Month, not as a corrective or as a token appreciation of African American contributions to the United States, but as acknowledgement of the inextricably enmeshed nature of African American lives, inventions, and leadership in the fabric of our nation, from 1619 to 2026.
Progressive Democrats of America remains fully committed to furthering racial equity. We combat structural racism, economic disparity, and cultural intolerance in the streets and in the halls of power. We work toward these goals 24/7. We never stop, we never slow down, and we never give up. Love and justice for all will prevail over the ignorance of hate and the cowardice of bigotry.
We invite you to convert words into action by joining our weekly Campaign to Victory call tonight at 9pm ET/ 8pm CT/ 7pm MT/ 6pm PT. Our calls provide vital organizing power to outspoken candidates who look like America and act on their progressive beliefs to uplift us all.
In solidarity and hope,
Debra Schrishuhn for the PDA National Team
