As your constituent, I am writing to tell you to take a stand for American Children

No or not enough help for our kids in any budget / appropriations bill should mean you will vote NO on that legislation.

I feel that these are among the most important votes you will cast in Congress. Act now to protect our children. Millions of lives depend on it.​

America’s children are facing unwarranted, immoral, and devastating attacks on their healthcare, their education opportunities, hurricane relief, and even their personal safety!

I demand that you act now so that Congress votes to renew CHIP funding, passes a clean DREAM Act, and gives Puerto Rico sufficient funding and support ​for hurricane relief efforts.

I am very concerned that September 5, Trump tweeted his intention to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that allows undocumented young people brought to the U.S. as children—some 800,000—to pursue education and careers.

I’m alarmed that it’s been months since September 20 when category 4 Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, home to 3.4 million American citizens, of whom more than 737,000 are 18 or younger.

Power outages occur daily, and virtually no public schools have reopened. More than half of Puerto Rican children under 5 years of age lived below the poverty level BEFORE Hurricane Maria. This is intolerable.

Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have introduced a $146 billion plan for Puerto Rico’s recovery. I urge you to cosponsor their legislation and any similar House bills. ​

I’m outraged that on September 30, the Republican-controlled Congress allowed the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), providing health insurance for 9 million low-income kids and 600,000 pregnant women, to expire.

How has Trump led on these issues? He’s taken us in the wrong direction. He insulted the widow of a soldier killed in the line of duty, and he has picked fights with members of Congress and African-American athletes. He’s threatened wars and exacerbated conflicts.

Now, Trump is pushing a tax scam that will hurt families making less than $100,000, increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion, and slash essential social services to fund massive giveaways for his corporate and billionaire cronies. He even backs an accused pedophile for the U.S. Senate.

I demand that Congress renew CHIP funding, pass a clean DREAM Act, and give Puerto Rico sufficient funding and support to recover from Hurricane Maria as part of any appropriations legislation. That’s including any temporary measure to fund the government beyond December 8.

It’s as simple as this. Unless the Congressional Republicans remove the disgusting provisions that attack children—and unless they include all necessary help for children in their budget—you must vote against it.
