Achieving Medicare For All! A Long Victory Growing Closer

May 20, 2019

In solidarity,  Mike Hersh for Alan, Dr. Bill, Dan, Janis, Deb, Kimberly, Bryan, Mike F., and Shayna—your PDA national team.

Pitch In For Medicare For All

When Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) launched in 2004, Medicare For All (MFA) couldn’t receive the serious attention we knew it deserved from most politicians or the mainstream media. So much has changed in fifteen years—thanks to the enthusiastic support of activists like you!

Last month, the House Rules Committee held historic hearings on Medicare For All. This Wednesday, the House Budget Committee will follow suit. The House Ways and Means Committee will convene hearings soon thereafter. We’re winning on the merits, making our powerful case for the Medicare For All Act in the House and Senate.

The public is increasingly aware that this legislation will guarantee comprehensive healthcare for all of us—including all mental, dental, vision, hearing, prescriptions, medical devices, preventative, women’s, long-term, and every other medical care we need—with no out of pocket expenses: no premiums, co-pays, caps, or deductibles.

Last week, Real Clear Politics reported:

Health care has emerged as the top policy issue for American voters, according to a new poll containing detailed data suggesting that any political party ignoring this topic – or misreading the public’s mood on it – does so at its own peril.

Americans continue to express broad backing for “Medicare for All,” a term of art embraced by liberal activists and leaders, including most of the Democratic candidates in the large field of 2020 presidential hopefuls. This support, documented in a new survey from RealClear Opinion Research, is especially pronounced among Democrats (82%), but is also strong among Independents, who favor it by a 2-to-1 margin. Even Republicans are evenly split.

We welcome this continued great news, but we have no time to rest! We must have as many House cosponsors as we can get to force a floor vote and pass the Medicare For All Act! Call Congress at 202-858-1717 and Click Here to tell your Representative to Cosponsor Rep. Jayapal’s and Rep. Debbie Dingell’s Medicare For All Act. Also, Click Here to tell your Senators to cosponsor Bernie Sanders’s MFA legislation.
