Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) endorsed State Senator Roger Manno for Congress in Maryland’s 6th District—an open seat—because he’s adamantly progressive, a proven effective legislator and leader, and has all the requisite experience both as a Maryland legislator and as a former staffer on Capitol Hill. Our allies—including National Nurses United (NNU), Our Revolution, Food and Water Watch Action (FWW), Communications Workers of America (CWA), and dozens of other progressive individuals, unions, and organizations—have also endorsed Roger.

This is a familiar political showdown. Roger is running against a billionaire and a millionaire-friendly candidate embraced by corporate insiders. The billionaire is trying to buy this Congressional seat after failing to buy the 8th District seat in 2016. The corporate Dem has a record of catering to the 1% who are rewarding that service with huge donations. Both of Roger’s main rivals  are pouring $millions into this primary. Here are a few highlights of Sen. Manno’s progressive public service: As a staffer in Congress, he worked for Medicare For All / H.R. 676 from Day 1. As a Maryland legislator, he voted against the $11.4M estate tax giveaway for the top .2%, against allowing garbage burning as ‘clean energy’ tax credits, and against huge giveaways to corporations that his main challengers push at the expense of working people.

Roger led the struggle to ban fracking, help patients gain healthcare and afford medications, facilitate voter registration, lift the arbitrary deadline from the Equal Rights Amendment, and much more.
