“Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.”—Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., (Republican) Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court
Nobody likes paying taxes. Everyone has disagreements with the way government spends our hard-earned tax dollars. Pooled together and distributed with wisdom and compassion, our tax revenue can fund programs to make our daily lives easier, support the most vulnerable among us, and solve problems too large or widespread to be tackled by individuals.
PDA works day in and day out to elect legislators who will exercise wisdom and compassion with a sense of justice and equity. We fight for policies like Medicare For All and the Green New Deal that will uplift all Americans. We resist government efforts to disenfranchise citizens, dehumanize immigrants, and exert American militarism around the world.
We play the short game, to be sure, with rapid response teams when events threaten to overturn progressive priorities. But we also play the long game, supporting fearless progressive candidates and elected officials, and building relationships on Capitol Hill and with activist organizations around the country.
So, as we collectively pay our taxes this year, we also need to set aside a small portion to make sure we elect responsible people with the wisdom and compassion to spend our national treasure on the betterment of people and the planet, not special interests and corporations.
Please support PDA with a monthly gift of $25, $15, $10, or $5 to keep our efforts strong.
