800,000 Dreamers At Risk Of Deportation
Will You Stand With Us?
Let’s get a Public Pledge from Congress to vote NO on the Dec. 8th Omnibus Spending Bill unless it includes a Clean Dream Act.
Press reports suggest that on Tuesday, November 28th, Paul Ryan, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and Chuck Schumer will meet with President Trump and DACA will be on the agenda. We are calling on our nation’s leaders to do the right thing and commit to passing the clean DREAM Act as part of the December 8th spending bill. Undocumented young people cannot wait any longer. Our supporters need to stand up and take a stand. We call on every member of Congress who claims to support Dreamers to pledge: No Dream, No Deal.
The Our Dream Campaign is a coalition effort led by undocumented youth. This coalition of many organizations, including PDA, represents ten’s of thousands throughout the country who are calling on Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act as part of the omnibus spending bill. The spending bill, which must be passed by December 8th to avoid a government shutdown. This may well be the last opportunity this year to protect nearly 800,000 DREAMERS from deportation.
Because of the dire urgency, starting next week, the coalition organizations, including activists in The Seed Project, Democracy Spring, Presente Action, The People for Bernie, PDA, and more, will begin organizing peaceful sit-ins and protest actions at the offices of any member of Congress who refuses to take this pledge to stand with Dreamers.
Nationally-known Dreamer/DACA recipient Erika Andiola sums it up like this,“We must pass the DREAM Act now, to codify DACA and ensure that undocumented youth have a clear path to citizenship. We know our best chance is to force Congress to put DREAM into the omnibus spending bill, which must be passed by December 8th to fund the federal government. And we are mobilizing throughout the country to make this happen. We will not rest until Congress acts to secure the future of the students, workers, parents, and community leaders who make up the Dreamers.”
Mike Fox, PDA’s Deputy Director, agrees, “We are calling on every Democrat and Republican who says they support Dreamers, who believe in fairness, to join Senators Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and some 25 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in the House who have already pledged to vote against any spending bill that does not include the DREAM Act.”
We can win this if hundreds of us sit-in and take strong peaceful actions at offices of Representatives and Senators across the country to demand they make a choice: stand with Dreamers or stand by as 800,000 young, innocent immigrants are deported.
Whoever and wherever you are, you can play a crucial role. We will support you every step of the way. Will you join us?
In solidarity,
Dan O’Neal and Mike Fox for Donna, Mike H., Amos, Janis, Deb, Kimberly, Bryan, Judy, Dr. Bill and the rest of the PDA team.
