Sunday Progressive Town Hall with L. Randall Wray, Economist and Author
This week’s Town Hall is one that I’ve been anticipating since I became PDA Executive Director. I’ve known Randy Wray since I was a child, as he was a student of my father. Many of my father’s students have gone onto great things, but none to date have made the impact of Randy Wray. Randy’s 1998 book, Understanding Modern Money: The Key to Full Employment and Price Stability, is largely recognized as the founding text of what has come to be known as Modern Monetary Theory or MMT.
Across the world MMT has captured the imaginations of left-progressives, understandable as it provides a powerful rejoinder to austerity policies and holds out the promise of a clear pathway to a more prosperous society for all.
So, Randy will be joining us to discuss these economic issues, among other things:
- Why the conventional approach to inflation is getting it all wrong;
- Why the debt ceiling debate is a wholly political (i.e. non-economic) fiction;
- How simply understanding modern money, combined with the political will to act on that understanding, will allow us to reorganize our economy in a way that will benefit all of society.
Throughout, we’ll be referencing Randy’s 2022 book: Making Money Work for US: How MMT Can Save America.
(We’ll also be updating PDA’s campaigns to stop the privatization of Medicare and the Willow Oil Project in Alaska.)
RSVP now to make sure you don’t miss this Sunday’s PDA Town Hall.
See you Sunday!
