PDA Members Rock National Healthcare Convention
Please Help Us Continue Our Fight For Healthcare As A Human Right
PDA staffers Dr. Bill Honigman and Dan O’Neal along with fellow PDA members and scores Single-Payer activists from around the country met last week end in Las Vegas for the annual Healthcare Now convention.
We all now know a tragedy befell the city on Sunday night, after the convention. We are deeply saddened and extend our heartfelt condolences to the many victims and their families. We will continue to fight for a more just and compassionate world and commit to helping to not only heal our country’s wounds as a result of that tragic event, but we’ll also continue to fight for the lives of thousands who quietly die each year due to lack of health care in this country.
Nevada Congresswoman and HR-676 co-signer Dina Titus, Healthcare Now leader Ben Day, NNU Vice President Jean Ross and PDA California Co-State Coordinator Dr. Bill Honigman also spoke during the conference, and PDA Arizona State Coordinator Dan O’Neal moderated a discussion.
One of the most stirring talks was Las Vegas activists Amy Vilela who told the heart wrenching story of losing her daughter due to not having healthcare Insurance. Amy is now running for Congress on a strong progressive platform in NV CD- 3.
PDA staff linked up with several local activist including Nevada for the People. On Friday afternoon a crew met for nearly two hours hashing out plans and forming a new PDA Las Vegas chapter.
After the awful events of Sunday night we heard reports from PDA and Healthcare Now members who were already volunteering, donating blood, gathering supplies, and planning to attend vigils in support of all in the Las Vegas community.
We are proud to stand with such caring, compassionate allies.
