Washington, DC
Progressive Democrats of America has endorsed Joan Fitz-Gerald in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District and Eric Massa in New York’s 29th CD.
Fitz-Gerald, the president of the Colorado state Senate, is running for the seat being vacated by Rep. Mark Udall, who is running for U.S. Senate. She is committed to renewable energy, human rights, an economy that works for everyone, single-payer healthcare, and an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
PDA national director Tim Carpenter commented, “We are thrilled to endorse Joan for Congress, she has a great history of representing her constituents in the Colorado Legislature, and is precisely the kind of progressive leader needed in Congress today.”
Massa is making his second run at the 29th CD seat. In 2006 he came within 6,000 votes (out of more than 200,000 cast) of unseating reactionary Republican and Bush rubber stamp Rep. Randy Kuhl in a district that is considered very red. Massa is a signer of the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq, supports Rep. John Conyers’ HR676 Medicare for All bill and advocates fair trade rather than free trade.
“We are happy and proud to endorse and actively aid and support Joan Fitz-Gerald and Eric Massa,” said PDA Executive Director Tim Carpenter. “They are among the very best the Democratic Party has to offer, and we look forward to working closely with them when they get to Congress.”
Fitz-Gerald and Massa join fourteen other Healthcare NOT Warfare candidates to receive PDA endorsements. Learn more about the “Healthcare NOT Warfare” campaign here; watch the introductory video, here.
