Wahington, DC
Progressive Democrats of America has endorsed Ed Fallon in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District and Harry Taylor in North Carolina’s 9th CD.
Ed Fallon, a progressive Democrat who served in the Iowa Legislature for 14 years, is challenging Blue Dog Democratic incumbent Rep. Leonard Boswell. When asked about where the campaign stands today, Fallon said, “Our internal polling looks very good, which is why I think the incumbent has been running an extremely negative and deceptive campaign, avoiding the issues and his record at all cost.”
As in his seven previous campaigns in the Iowa Legislature, all of which he won, Fallon is running a grassroots campaign that focuses on contacting voters through door-to-door canvassing and phone banking, as well as creative use of YouTube. Recent productions include a mockumentary “Campaigns of the Rich and Powerful” and a rap video on fiscal responsibility and tax reform.
Harry Taylor is vying in a contested primary for the right to challenge incumbent Rep. Sue Myrick, an over-the-edge Bush Republican who recently called for revoking the passport of former President Jimmy Carter. Taylor has given generously of his time and energy to such organizations as Big Brothers, Habitat for Humanity, Outward Bound, the Sierra Club and the Charlotte Folk Society, associations in which he has served as both leader and participant. He has also been a tireless political activist, working through grassroots organizations to protect and defend the principles he holds sacred. He is known for his courageous—and courteous—confrontation of President Bush in Charlotte in April 2006.
“We are happy and proud to endorse and actively aid and support Ed Fallon and Harry Taylor,” said PDA Executive Director Tim Carpenter. “They are among the very best the Democratic Party has to offer, and we look forward to working closely with them when they get to Congress.”
Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots PAC that works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice. Its goal is to elect a permanent, progressive majority in Congress. More information is available at http://www.pdamerica.org.
