Washington, DC
Progressive Democrats of America has endorsed three candidates in upcoming Democratic primary elections following PDA’s highly successful grassroots effort in helping Donna Edwards defeat incumbent Albert Wynn in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District primary on February 5.
“When PDA was first established our goal was, and continues to be, to elect a progressive governing majority,” said Tim Carpenter, PDA's executive director. “The excitement generated by the presidential race and the overwhelming desire for change by the electorate has brought many new and young voters into the process--this has created an opportunity for us to make great strides in key congressional races and bring real progressive change to Congress and the country.”
The three congressional candidates endorsed by PDA in this round are:
All three support a swift, safe and orderly return of our troops and military contractors from Iraq, development of sustainable energy, fiscal responsibility and the creation of a stable economy with jobs for all Americans. Other candidates endorsed by PDA include: Clint Curtis (FL24), Mahdi Ibn-Ziyad (NJ01), Corbett Kroehler (FL08), Samm Simpson (FL10), John Laesch (IL14), Randi Scheuer (IL), Dr. Bill Durston (CA03), Donna Edwards (MD04), and Ed O’Reilly for Senate in Massachusetts.
Local PDA chapters in their districts first endorsed all of the candidates. All eleven have signed on to the seven-point Progressive Agenda for change in 2008 and beyond.
Progressive Democrats of America is one of the nation's fastest-growing grassroots political organizations; founded in 2004, it has active chapters in 45 states. PDA is dedicated to reviving the progressive tradition of the Democratic Party through grassroots organizing and working with elected Democrats to advance peace, justice and social, economic and environmental responsibility.
