PDA ENDORSES SEVEN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES IN UPCOMING PRIMARIES

Progressive Democrats of America, maintaining its focus on electing a progressive majority in Congress, has endorsed seven congressional candidates in upcoming Democratic primary elections in four states.

“The presidential race has been getting all the attention this month, for good reasons, but there are also many races in key congressional districts where progressives have a real chance of making gains,” said Tim Carpenter, PDA's executive director. “We're working to take advantage of these opportunities to bring real, progressive change to Congress and the nation.”

The congressional candidates endorsed by PDA are:

Edwards and Scheurer are taking on conservative Democratic incumbents in their primaries, while Durston, Kroehler and Simpson are vying to challenge Republican incumbents in general election. Laesch is running for the open seat created by Hastert's resignation.

All of the candidates endorsed by PDA National were first endorsed by local PDA chapters in their districts. All six have signed on to the seven-point Progressive Agenda for change in 2008 and beyond.
While PDA may make some more congressional endorsements, it will not endorse in the presidential primaries. A poll of the membership completed late last year found overwhelming support for the two progressive Democratic candidates, Rep. Dennis Kucinich and former Sen. John Edwards, but neither polled a majority.

Progressive Democrats of America is one of the nation's fastest-growing grassroots political organizations; founded two years ago, it has active chapters in 45 states. PDA is dedicated to reviving the progressive tradition of the Democratic Party through grassroots organizing and working with elected Democrats to advance peace, justice and social, economic and environmental responsibility.
