New York
August 10, 2006—The New York 19th Congressional District Progressive Democrats (PDA-19) have endorsed John Hall, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 19th district. Mr. Hall received the endorsement at the conclusion of a special meeting hosted by the New York chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America.
“Dissatisfied with our representation in the House of Representatives, this PDA chapter was formed to identify a progressive candidate to send to Congress to replace incumbent Representative Sue Kelly (R),” said PDA-19 point person Neal Hundt. “John Hall has a wealth of experience with progressive causes and an impressive record fighting corporate abuse. John has been an advocate of sound energy policy for over 30 years. He is the best candidate to represent the common interests of the people in this district.”
PDA Executive Director Tim Carpenter said, “NY-19th CD Democrats have taken a huge step towards improving their representation in Congress. More and more, Americans are learning they have the power to influence politics. We must elect leaders to Congress who will have the courage to stand up for our interests and remove the ones who don’t.”
Speaking to more than 100 district residents who attended the meeting in the Katonah Village Library, Mr. Hall said he would help restore checks and balances to Congress, fight for universal healthcare, and support Representative Murtha’s proposed legislation calling for the removal of all U.S. military forces from Iraq. In response to questions from the audience, he said he would be an agent for change in Washington. He cited his own record of raising campaign funds from individual contributors as opposed to the PAC money attracted by the incumbent.
John Hall’s leadership experience includes serving on the Ulster county legislature and the Saugerties school board. A professional musician and songwriter, John is best known for his band Orleans and its hit single “Still the One.” John’s commitment to the environment formed bonds with legendary musician and civil and environmental rights activist Pete Seeger, also a resident in the 19th district. Mr. Seeger enthusiastically campaigned for John Hall recently in a series of concerts to benefit John’s campaign.
The 19th district is located in the Hudson River valley of New York, approximately 30 miles north of New York City. The district includes parts of Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, and Dutchess counties.
The Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots, nationally federated organization working to advance the progressive agenda in Congress and elect progressive leaders across the country. The PDA-19 chapter works locally to identify and promote progressive candidates and issues.
