.: PDA Policy Board :.

Organization and Function

Purpose

The PDA Policy Board's principle function is to develop and articulate the social, tactical, and ideological positions that inform and drive PDA's organizational, electoral, and legislative strategies at both the national and local levels. The Policy Board will work in active dialogue with PDA grassroots forums, state chapters and national staff. The PDA Policy Board is a "sub-board" of the PDA Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.

Structure

There will be no set limit on the numbers of members of the PDA Policy Board (PB) or the numbers of issue specific sub-committees. The PB Core Committee/Steering Committee shall be comprised of one representative from each PB subcommittee, and one representative from each state caucus region. There is no set limit for the number of PB subcommittees because the number of meaningful issues is unlimited, including but not limited to labor, civil rights, youth, glbt, women, peace, ecology, health care, spirituality, specific legislative initiatives, etc. Regional representatives sit on the PB as at-large members--i.e. on the Core Committee and may also sit on one issue specific subcommittee. The Chairperson(s) of the PB are selected by PDA Board of Directors/Executive Committee. The PDA Policy Coordinator serves as staff to the PB and as PDA staff liaison to the PB. No PB member may sit on more than two PB subcommittees.

Nominations to and creation of the PB

A. Phase One: Board Building
All PDA field organizations, chapters, caucuses, staff, individual supporters, partners, current board members, and "friends" of PDA are invited to submit the names of nominees for PB board membership to the PDA Board Building Committee (BBC). The BBC will review the names, experience, and qualifications of nominees (and may correspond with nominees) and will bring recommendations for PB membership approval to the PDA Executive Committee/Staff meeting for review.

B. Phase Two: Organizing Meetings
There will be a series of initial PB conference call meetings attended by all approved nominees, plus the PDA Policy Coordinator, Executive Director, and Field Director, the PDA PB Chairperson(s), and members of the PB BBC as seems apt.

C. Phase Three: Ongoing Nominations
Once the PB is constituted, nominations of new members or subcommittees shall be made to the PDA Core Committee and approved internally by that Committee.

How to Nominate

Persons wishing to submit their name or the name(s) of others for nomination to a PDA Policy Board Task Force may do so by sending an e-mail to that includes the name, phone number, and e-mail address of the nominee and a short description of why they are being nominated. Policy Board Task Force members must ultimately be members of Progressive Democrats of America.
