Recommended Actions for Parents and Community Members at the National Level

1. Let your Representative and Senators know what you think. Let them know that you are opposed to the punitive policies of NCLB and feel that it needs to be drastically changed. Tell them that you support high funding for public schools and that you are opposed to high-stakes testing. Specifically, tell them that you are opposed to extending NCLB’s punitive testing and accountability policies to high schools. Let them know that you do not want military recruiters hassling the children of your community.
2. Support national organizations that support public education and those that protect the nation's youth, such as:
   Coalition of Essential Schools opposed high-stakes testing
   California Coalition for Authentic Reform in Education
   Students against Testing
   Leave My Child Alone opposed to military recruitment in high schools
3. Campaign for candidates that support your positions on education. Let them know you are doing it because of their progressive position on education.
