(H.R. 4232 expired when the previous Congressional session ended last year. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) has reintroduced a new version, HR 746, the "Safe and Orderly Withdrawal Act," with some modifications. Read the text of the new bill.)

The "Safe and Orderly Withdrawal Act" would:

provide for withdrawal of troops within 180 days
prohibit funding of redeployment to Iraq
transfer US facilities and bases to the government of Iraq

In addition, the bill would not prohibit or restrict non-defense funding to carry out reconstruction in Iraq.
