State Coordinators


The position of PDA State Coordinator is an appointed Organizational / Administrative position within PDA's "Field" operations. The responsibilities of State Coordinator include working directly with the National Field Director and Field Staff to:

  1. Develop New Chapters within the State by:
    • actively recruiting leadership for new chapter formation through statewide outreach to potential chapter organizers.
    • researching the state's database for potential chapter organizers in strategic Congressional Districts
    • phone calling, e-mailing and meeting with potential chapter organizers
    • traveling and speaking to potential individuals and groups
    • tabling at events where potential PDA supporters and new chapter organizers might be reached
    • responding to inquiries from individuals interested in joining and or forming a new chapter
    • mentoring and coaching interested individuals and groups who are initiating a new chapter
    • encouraging all supporters and contacts in the PDA database to help sustain PDA with a minimum $25 monthly contribution
  2. Help existing PDA Chapters to grow and increase their influence by:
    • keeping chapters informed about events statewide and helping coordinate joint PDA chapter campaigns and actions
    • identifying a state "reporter" to write updates and articles on statewide and chapter events to submit for possible publication on PDA's national web site
    • posting all statewide events on PDA's national web site
    • working with Chapter leadership on any political or organizational problems that may arise
    • responding to inquiries from individuals interested in joining an existing chapter and introduce new contacts to the appropriate chapter leadership
    • helping chapter leadership assimilate new contacts into their chapter structure
    • motivating chapter leadership to be actively involved in PDA actions and events
  3. Develop PDA's contacts and organizational influence with other progressive organizations by:
    • seeking out and developing relationships with Progressive organizations including anti-war organizations, community groups, labor unions, environmental and other political activist groups
    • keeping other organizations aware of PDA political campaigns and actions and finding common grounds for coordinated response to objective events
    • learning from other organizations and when appropriate find ways to mobilize PDA to asset them in their actions and events
    • continuing to strengthen our relationship and develop the links to our Allies and Partner Organizations.
  4. Manage and support the development of the PDA's State Database by:
    • managing the state database and coordinating messages, announcements and alerts in support of chapter organizing statewide
    • actively soliciting new PDA contacts through out-reach efforts and then assuring that the new contacts are entered into PDA's national database
    • using the state database and forwarding announcements to relevant geographic areas of the state in support of Chapter organizing
    • using the database to contact and encourage all supporters to help sustain PDA with a minimum $25 monthly contribution
  5. Work in cooperation with PDA's designated Congressional District Point People to:
    • encourage and support their efforts to mobilize their Congressional Districts on particular legislative, advocacy and educational issues
    • support their efforts to organize Congressional visits, lobbying efforts, demonstrations and other local actions
    • aid the CD Point Person and others in supporting and waging PDA endorsed election campaigns
  6. Work in support of the National Organizing Committee to:
    • Help fulfill it's political and organizational mission. The National Organizing Committee is a body whose members include effective grassroots organizers as well as nationally recognized organizers. The NOC will incorporate the PDA Policy Task Forces and will develop, implement and integrate action strategies in support of PDA policy and goals.
