Blog Workshop: PDA Ithaca sponsored a Blog Workshop to help progressives set up their own blog by using Blogger.com and also to encourage use of existing blogs which are useful in the unending quest to keep up to date with the news and also to be able to contribute and be part of the dialogue. We offered this interactive workshop for 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon. We set up computers, had local bloggers available to help people develop their own blog on the spot or to view existing blogs and generally to talk about this resource. We also made a half-hour video of a discussion of blogs, suggestions for useful blog sites and a description of how to set one up. This aired on local public access TV. The video is also available for people to check out and view. We are planning a second workshop in May to reach new people and to provide follow-up for those who came in March. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.
Hi Friends,
The Tompkins County Health Care Task Force is planning a WALK FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM for the United States and New York. We will start in Kingston and walk to Jamestown. We hope to have a rally, town-meeting or just increase our contacts in the towns we come to.
The route we will take is from Kingston, to Delhi, Oneonta, Norwich, Cortland, Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Elmira, Corning, Bath, Hornell, Cuba, Olean, Salamanca, and Jamestown; hoping to have a rally, town-meeting or making contacts in each of these cities. We will take a bus back to Owego, walk to Binghamton, take a bus back to Ithaca and walk to Auburn, Waterloo and Geneva.
We are in the process of setting up a rally/town meeting in Kingston NY to start our trip. The time for action is now: with the proposal for New York to study a health care system for NY, a reintroduction of the Gottfried bill for universal health care, cuts in Medicaid, the threat of prescription drugs, and of course reform for New York's very dysfunctional health care system. We will also be supporting John Conyers Bill 676 for a National Universal/Single Payer Health Care Plan as well as pointing out that it is NOT Social Security that is in crisis, it is our Health Care System that is in crisis.
Our goal is to make our politicians accountable, we know what we want and we must generate some political will to respond to the many people going without health care coverage, food and/or medicine.
This walk will also be a tribute to Granny D and all her courage and compassion.
Help us to bring a system like "Medicare for All" to New York.
We plan to start the second week of June and walk 'til we drop!
If you would like to join us for part of this walk, would like to help organize an event for this or have contacts in any of these communities please call us: (607) 272-0621 or cell 273-1622.
