Florida State News
Vol. 2, No. 1--Pre-Summit, January 2005
The Florida Progressive Democrats Caucus finished drafting and submitting bylaws to the Florida Democratic Party about two weeks ago. The caucus is broken into three chapters: North Florida, Central Florida and South Florida. Thanks to Leslie Goller for her hard work on the bylaws and filing. A number of people agreed to assume interim roles as officers to facilitate timely completion of the paperwork, but elections will be held in February to fill these important roles.
Jon Shinn set up a web site for Progressive Democrats of Florida at www.pdflorida.org where new members can register for our e-mail list. E-mail volume is picking up, with members expressing strong desires to act NOW! Bill Calhoun is starting a member database and has generously purchased the software and offered his time to manage it.
We are strongly encouraging people to attend their local DEC meetings and attempt to secure positions on the committees as well as working locally with DFA and other progressive groups. The goal is to identify and oust Democratic leadership with poor track records and/or Republican leanings.
Additionally, events are planned in several counties:
