The Election Continues

Vol. 1, No. 6--December 23, 2004

In our impatient culture, people seem to forget that doing things properly can take time. The lack of attention the media and the general public have paid to the recounts going on in Ohio, New Mexico and Washington State is a symptom of this drive toward instant gratification. By all media accounts, people would rather have a quick answer than have a correct one. Running counter to this mainstream thread, however, are people willing to take the extra time to find out what s really going on, give assistance where it s needed, and even agitate so the truth can be told. People like you. Please see what you can personally do to demand the Senate review allegations of voting fraud and irregularities.

Since our last newsletter, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has continued to fight for your right to have your vote counted. After the hearings he held in D.C., he went to Ohio to give the voters a voice in local hearings. His attempts, along with Jerrold Nadler, Linda Sanchez, Maxine Waters, Tammy Baldwin, Sheila Jackson Lee and Melvin Watt, to hold Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell accountable for the election irregularities and potential fraud in Ohio have been met with thinly veiled disdain. What makes Blackwell think he can get away with it? He has more than the Republican Party to answer to, he is an employee of the voters of Ohio. Click here for Rep. Conyer's response.

Don't stand by as our democracy is hijacked!

What You Can Do:
You may remember the scene in Fahrenheit 911 where African American Representatives stood up to contest the 2000 Presidential election results with not one Senator supporting them. Some senators claim they were silent because no one asked them to speak out. Let's not give them that excuse this year! Join the movement and ask Senate and House Members to declare their intent to object to unlawful electors on January 6, 2005. Also relevant is www.thedeanpeople.org. You can also check out the event calendar at http://fairnessbybeckerman.blogspot.com to see if any election-related actions are going on in your area. If there aren't, consider traveling to Ohio or D.C. for the rallies being held in the beginning of January. You can find more information about those actions at http://www.donotconcede.com/.
