Vol. 1, No. 6--December 23, 2004

Arizona Democratic Progressive Caucus (AzDPC): This month there were two meetings of the AzDPC.

Our IRS non-profit status was established by our new Treasurer, Steve McClure, with a bank account set up as well so we can start moving forward with a stronger financial foothold. Our last meeting was held for this year with another healthy group of 60+ people, many first time participants. In our last meeting we focused on areas of concern that we wanted to work on. The top areas were selected from a listing we had identified the previous month. After a rousing opening presentation by Kyrsten Sinema, newly elected State of Arizona Legislator from district 15 a number of items including the PDA Summit in January and the DFA Meet-Up agenda for January. West Region Spokes council Representative, Dave Kaler gave a short report on the states that had been participating and forming in the West. A call was requested of support for the endorsement of a boycott against a specific resort in Phoenix who refused to let its employees unionize. Breakout sessions were held with the key focus items the group want to work on. Each group was handed a clipboard with specific instructions to fill out a short questionnaire and then report back at the end of 30 minutes highlighting the 3 most urgent concerns, when and where the next group meeting was going to be held. Kevin Spidel spoke about where PDA was going and the afternoon was finished with a great speech by Ben Miranda State Legislator in his 2nd term.

We are in the process of networking with other groups like Tucson PDA, Peace Web International etc. so that no effort will get lost. DFA in Tucson has already agreed to put their working groups together with ours etc. so that we can focus on creating solutions and strategies. It is looking great folks. Let's continue pulling together and make the changes that are necessary.
