The Recount EffortsVol. 1, No. 5--December 4, 2004This week, people across the country are beginning to systematically look at the irregularities in the 2004 Presidential Election. While organizations such as Black Box Voting (www.blackboxvoting.org) have been involved with election legitimacy issues since before the election, the wider public is just beginning to take the call for recounts seriously. Better late than never? That remains to be seen. The current situation demands a massive effort on the part of everyone who believes a democracy is defined by the right of its citizens to vote for their leaders through a legitimate process. Do we expect a change in the election outcome? It's too close to call. But a recount would certainly change the nature of the results. Even if the current winners and losers remain, making the results legitimate would be meaningful. It would demonstrate that our system respects every voter and the effort they made on November 2nd. Undoubtedly you are getting a lot of information about the recounts right now. Progressive Democrats of America has created a web guide to assist your efforts to understand and participate in the recount efforts. If you find something particularly useful, pass it on to your friends. Also, if you have a resource that you would like to recommend and is not included below, please send it to us. We all deserve to be part of this process!
