Vol. 1, No. 5--December 4, 2004
I want to congratulate you and thank you for your dedicated efforts during this recent campaign in our struggle for better government and the better America that we all are seeking. Although our success in the broad sense was not what we had hoped it would be, we strongly encourage you not to lose faith. In our own Hillsborough County District 2, your collective efforts certainly helped to turn out many votes. In addition, we gained significant visibility and name recognition. Further, while it is not my intention to be vague here, I will just note that the results in certain races on the local level may still change.
For the present time, it is important to remember that opportunities remain for us to continue our ongoing battle for progressive and environmental changes in the off-year election of 2006, as well as the more encompassing race in 2008. We must still implement our platform, including affordable professional health care, living wage, veterans' benefits, First Amendment rights, saving our environment, growth management, affordable housing, public transportation, economic development, childcare and early learning, and storm protection.
For all your hard work during this last campaign, I want to express my gratitude to each of you for your friendship, your votes, your monetary contributions, your time--and the related personal sacrifices involved, and your unwavering belief in us.
Finally, in that we are planning another run in 2006, I am hoping that we may look forward to the support of great people like you when we gear up in 2005. My current intent is to file in January 2005, as a Democrat, for Florida House District 47, a seat now held by right wing Republican Kevin Ambler.
In addition, for those of us who are members of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee, we need to vote on December 1, 2004 to replace the current chair. I endorse Rob MacKenna for this position.
Peace, love, and justice,
David Cutting
