Colorado State News
Vol. 1, No. 5--December 4, 2004
Many of us have been working on the stolen elections, possible voter fraud right here in Colorado as well as at the national level, and have been looking at what a clean election would look like. We've had a large rally at the state capitol building in Denver, weekly meetings in Boulder and Denver, and discussion groups online talking about this issue.
In other news, Be The Change, a PAC formed out of the Mike Miles for US Senate campaign that most progressives supported during the primaries, has agreed to become a partner with PDA and will support the creation of a progressive Democratic caucus in the Colorado Democratic Party. The specifics have not yet been worked out, but this is a great announcement and we look forward to working with Be The Change.
We, along with Be The Change, are learning the specifics of the upcoming state party elections that will be held early next year, 2005. We have met with Julia Hicks, a supporter of the progressives in the Democratic Party here in Colorado and currently a Vice Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, to talk about what we can do in the Party, how we can help, how we can do outreach, and how we can work together to bring about change within the Party.
Many of us agree, however, that simply forming a caucus within the Democratic Party will not be enough. We must focus our energy on creating a progressive social movement in Colorado that will be the base for progressive activism and progressive politics. This movement will be based on common values and a common vision. We are working with other individuals and organizations to begin to build a progressive social movement and form a non-profit organization, Colorado Progressives, to begin to work on this process.
