D.C. NewsVol. 1, No. 3--November, 2004Progressive Democrats of America met staff from with various progressive Congressional representatives on Capitol Hill this week. These included meetings with staff of Progressive Caucus members Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-Michigan), Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-California), and Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Washington). The goal of these meetings was to continue building alliances between the progressive state caucuses and progressive state congressional representatives. PDA received a warm welcome from our emerging partners on Capitol Hill. Our meetings reinforced PDA's belief that there are many members of Congress who understand the collective power, dedication, and capability of a nationwide grassroots network of committed caucuses and activists. PDA also met with allied organizations in D.C. such as United Progressives for Victory and Progressive Majority to continue the alliance-building efforts that characterize the relationships between our organizations. The success of PDA's Washington trip demonstrates that PDA can effectively advance a progressive agenda both inside and outside of the Democratic Party. Through joint efforts by grassroots organizations, progressive citizens, and elected representatives we will join in something larger than ourselves, a progressive movement that inspires a world of peace, equitable resource reallocation, and unlimited possibilities. |
