Nevada State News

Vol. 1, No. 2--October, 2004

For more information on the Nevada Progressive Democratic Caucus, email rajndiana@earthlink.net.

Here in Vegas we had a wonderful candidate forum Aug. 14 spotlighting our four progressive office seekers and culminating with a fantastic bluegrass band, the Pickadillos. It was so different from most political gatherings we have attended. It felt more like a small community of like-minded people, very supportive and caring people. That atmosphere of competitiveness and tension was missing. Several other candidates attended and were given time to speak at 9:00 p.m. after the band. So we can see that word is getting out about the Nevada Progressive Democratic Caucus and people are showing interest.

We had an after-primary election-results potluck here at the Rajmahal with two of the candidates who were in the David-Goliath races. Brian Dral ran against Shelly Berkley and received over 3,000 votes and Rick DeVoe ran against Tom Galagher (the person who contributed $2,000 to Bush/Cheney re-election campaign). We celebrated all the work everyone did and how grateful we were for the coming together of the group and how we value our new community. We meet tomorrow night to discuss plans for the future.

A core group of the NPDC will travel four hours north of here to Tonopah this Saturday to attend the central committee meeting of the state Democratic Party where we will formally introduce ourselves and read our mission and vision and invite others to join us. It will be interesting to experience their reaction.
