PDA Chatter

Vol. 1, No. 1--August 27, 2004

  1. Before speaking at the Progressive Democratic Convention in Boston, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) the "Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus" actually called Arianna Huffington and urged her to help us! He later told the crowd, "This is the most exciting convention I've ever been to in my life!" He's quoted saying so in an In These Times article.
  2. After speaking at our event, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, touted PDA at her Cambridge fundraiser--when she had no idea PDA staff were there supporting her.
  3. At our Thursday event, actor Jaime Cromwell (the farmer in Babe) kicked off our fundraising drive by pitching in $1,000.00.
  4. PDA's Tuesday Peace Conference featuring Tom Hayden and Medea Benjamin was covered by the New York Times
  5. William Rivers Pitt urged progressives to fund PDA in the section of his article on the Democratic National Convention entitled Killing the Buddha in Truth Out.
  6. Utne.com covered us, though not by name.
  7. We had 1,200 supporters at our kick off Progressive Democratic Convention in Boston.
  8. Progressive Vote, with whom we have just merged, has been networking among and organizing new state level Progressive Democratic Caucuses for several months and has caucuses in about a dozen states.
