It’s a Crime to Laugh? Our CodePink Sister Will Find Out
By Donna Smith, Executive Director – Progressive Democrats of America
Our sisters and brothers at CodePink have always stood in solidarity with us on issues ranging from healthcare to climate change and most assuredly on issues related to war and peace. Their protests are often unwelcome by those who want a more polite expression of political disagreement. After all, one must always be polite when discussing the unacceptable. right?
Well, this time, three CodePink protestors were arrested after being removed from the Jeff Sessions confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate. This Wednesday, May 10th, 2017, outside the Justice Department in D.C., there will be a “Laugh-In Rally” — the rally title reflects the outrageous claim about the nature of one of the criminal charges levied against one of the CodePink sisters. She laughed during the Sessions’ hearing. She laughed. And I doubt any of us wishes to see laughter criminalized by the Trumpublican regime. So we will join together, and we will laugh.
Here is the scoop: Noon, EDT, Wednesday, May 10th. US Dept of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Washington, D.C.

Some may ask, why is PDA blasting for CodePink? Simple. Our wonderful advisory board member, Medea Benjamin, has stood with us at every turn. In rain, in snow, in crazy moments and in serious policy discussions, Medea has demonstrated solidarity with grace and courage and a healthy dose of fun. And while we’ll all be laughing a bit, silencing our voices and our right to call out injustice during such a critical time for the nation must not be allowed to stand.
If you are able to attend Wednesday, please do. If you are able to help PDA with our needs for more signs and stickers and solid organizing support, please donate using the button below. Resistance and insistence. Justice or bust.
Peace and a big old guffaw or two,
