PDA was honored and privileged to have the opportunity to kick-off its California "Healthcare NOT Warfare" Road Show in Corona, at the Corona Mosque. PDA members and supporters were warmly received by the Mosque Leadership including Dr. Ahsan Baseer, Dr. Faisal Kazi, Mr. Ayaz Kaleemullah, Mr. Abdul Quadar and Mr. Kalim Farooki.
The 90 plus attendees at PDA's Town Hall meeting, in the heart of Riverside County, only underscored the ever-growing grassroots groundswell of interest and concern in changing our country's broken healthcare system.
Participating in the discussion was an impressive array of experts in their respective fields and included, Dr. Faisal Kazi, current President of the American Muslim Health Professionals; Bill Gallagher, Political Director of the California Nurses Association, who was joined by nurses highlighting the urgency to support HR 676; Mike Milliman, Southern California Legislative and Political Chair of the Communications Workers of America and whose International Union has come out in support of HR 676; Dr. Dan McCanne, former two-term National President of Physicians for a National Health Program and current Senior Health Policy Fellow for Physicians for a National Health Plan; Bill Hedrick, candidate for Congress in the 44th Congressional District; Dr. Bill Honigman, PDA CA State Coordinator and Tim Carpenter, National Director of PDA.
Following the in-depth and insightful discussion, PDA National Director Tim Carpenter showed a 30-second spot featuring Actor Mike Farrell endorsing HR 676--the spot was simple and to the point--"Everybody in--nobody out."
As PDA continues its California Healthcare NOT Warfare Road Show this week, ending in Sacramento Friday for the weekend California Democratic State Convention, PDA will continue to extend its reach to grassroots communities across the country such as the membership of Corona Mosque, to ensure we all have a seat at the table as the national healthcare debate continues.
