Demand Healthcare NOT Warfare!

Across the USA these days, many people are frustrated and angry--with good reason--about healthcare and warfare. Huge numbers of dollars are going to profit-driven medical industries while vast numbers of people are uninsured or woefully under-insured. Meanwhile, the U.S. military is soaking up two billion dollars per day from taxpayers while horrific war efforts continue overseas.
No wonder the demand for Healthcare NOT Warfare has resonated so widely since Progressive Democrats of America launched the
national campaign this spring.
Now, an excellent new
Healthcare NOT Warfare video is online, featuring such inspirational boosters of single-payer healthcare as John Conyers, Donna Edwards, Tim Carpenter, Diane Shamis and Jim Hightower.
A growing number of political hopefuls are taking up the effort. For instance, in a New York district that includes Staten Island and part of Brooklyn--where the PDA-endorsed congressional candidate
Steve Harrison is working to unseat scandal-scarred Republican Vito Fossella--local PDA members have distributed thousands of leaflets to ferry commuters with the Harrison message on one side and PDA’s Healthcare NOT Warfare message on the other.
In many localities, PDA activists are hitting the streets in their own neighborhoods with
Healthcare NOT Warfare flyers. They’re telling people how the area’s representative in Congress has voted on issues of healthcare and war--and gathering signatures on the online petition.
Which reminds me: Please encourage people you know to
sign the online petition for the Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign. And pass along the link to the new video!

Just a few days ago, north of San Francisco,
Healthcare-NOW! National Coordinator and Healthcare NOT Warfare co-chair Marilyn Clement spoke to a Marin County audience about the opportunity to turn
H.R. 676 into federal law. Introduced by Congressman Conyers (a co-chair of Healthcare NOT Warfare), the bill guarantees comprehensive publicly-funded, privately-delivered health care for everyone in the United States.
During her eloquent presentation, Marilyn quoted from Martin Luther King Jr., who she worked with long ago. She and so many other activists keep moving forward, eyes on the prize. Today, the Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign is growing in that vibrant tradition.
