Countdown to November 7th: McGovern Petition Update

Out of the ashes and despair of the 2004 election, PDA has been carrying the torch for progressive activism -- from its work organizing opposition to the occupation of Iraq, to challenging the spurious vote count in Ohio to its efforts to give mainstream political expression to the antiwar movement and the demand for universal single payer health care. PDA is working hard to establish chapters in every congressional district, to keep the party honest and publicly advocate the kind of “outside/inside" strategy that we need. These are exciting times for PDA. Political fortunes are rising for Progressive Democrats. I have just returned from a trip to Orange County and San Diego, California, and Phoenix, Arizona, where I meet with PDA activists who are fully engaged in the upcoming November election registering voters, walking door-to-door and making phone calls to mobilize the progressive vote.

Next week I will be traveling with PDA Board Member Steve Cobble for a three-day swing through Michigan as part of the PDA Organize, Mobilize and Deliver the Progressive Vote 2006 Tour, for events with PDA-endorsed candidate Tony Trupiano and PDA National Board Member Rep. John Conyers.

PDA is working hard not only to win back the House in November but for a governing progressive majority! Only with added backbone and progressive principles will Democrats be able to win Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008.

In addition to all the important electoral work we are engaged in we must continue to call for an end to the occupation of Iraq and for the cutting off of all funding for the occupation of Iraq.

From day one PDA has been leading the effort to put our party on record against the occupation. With your help we have collected over 22,000 signatures on our online petition in support of Rep. Jim McGovern’s HR 4232. If you have signed the petition we thank you, if you have not signed please take two minutes to sign here. 

Please forward this link to your friends. Ask them to sign the petition and to vote for candidates in the November general election who will speak out to cut off all funding for deployment of US troops in Iraq and for the removal of all funding for the occupation of Iraq. 

We need your continued help, energy and financial support. Please consider becoming a sustainer or helping with a contribution to support PDA. For every $50, $100 and $500 contribution we can place a blog ad like this to help gather signatures on our “Stop Funding War” petition.

For every $25, $50 and $100 dollar contribution you can make - more phone calls can be made and more literature printed to elect PDA-endorsed candidates. Look at this list!  Please help us in the closing days of the campaign so we can elect not just Democrats but progressive Democrats.
