Organizing, Mobilizing, and Delivering the Ohio Vote in November 2006

By Mary Nichols Rhodes
Ohio Spokescouncil Representative

Tim Carpenter
Tim Carpenter, PDA Executive Director

March 14, 2006--PDA National Director Tim Carpenter will be joining chapter activists in Northeast Ohio from Wednesday, March 22, to Sunday, March 26, in a five-day blitz to "Organize, Mobilize, and Deliver the Progressive Vote in 2006." With important state issues on the ballot and all-important senatorial, congressional, gubernatorial and other statewide offices up for grabs, this election will prove to be one that puts Ohio back on the road to recovery from 14 years of Republican dominated mismanage-ment, inattention, lack of vision, and corruption. By rallying and unifying the grassroots, PDA and its Ohio chapters and allies hope to develop the network for change and make Ohio proudly blue once again.

During the week Tim will meet with local groups and speak on Northeast Ohio radio programs to push the message of ending the wasteful occupation of Iraq, the importance of holding the Bush administration responsible by supporting censure and impeachment proceedings, and winning the necessary seats in Ohio and the nation to end one-party rule. Also coming to Ohio are Advisory Board Chair Mimi Kennedy and Gold Star Mother and PDA Board Member Cindy Sheehan. Cindy will speak at two events on the weekend: March 25 in Cleveland and March 26 in Akron.

On March 25, Cindy and Tim will lead a panel of Northeast Ohio area peace activists, labor leaders and clergy speaking out against the gross injustice of this war and discuss the steps necessary to end the occupation and waste of human life and resources.

On March 26, the Summit County Progressive Democrats, a chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America, will bring together state activists, grassroots organizations, and state Democrat Party leadership in an unprecedented gathering to build the bonds necessary to win back Ohio in November. Working together with all like-minded organizations must be our top priority to create an organized front to stop the assault on the working people of our state. The progressive message of living wages, single-payer health care, fair elections, and progressive government leaders who put people's interests before corporate interests is one that resonates with the working citizens of Ohio.

By working with the Ohio Democratic Party, grassroots organizations inside and outside the party structure, labor, Democratic clubs, and activists, we can formulate the plan to take Ohio back for its people. Panelists include new Ohio Democratic Party Chair Chris Redfern, Regional Field Director Steve Chaffin, Democracy for America Ohio Organizer Marian Harris, America Votes State Director Scott Nunnery, Blue 88 Director Chris Glaros, and Jane Buder Shapiro of Ohioans for Democratic Values.

Seating is limited so be sure to sign up early for the March 25 event in Akron. You can do so by contacting Mary Nichols Rhodes at , or Patrick Carano at , or contact Patrick by mobile at 330-807-9096.

We call upon all progressive and Democratic organizations to bring their membership and leaders to both Cleveland on the 25th and Akron on the 26th to plant seeds for change. Ohio needs the grassroots leadership committed and working together to speak with one voice, turn up the volume, and turn out the vote this November. Together we can make a difference!
