Dr. Bill Durston's New Office, Upcoming Events

We are proud to announce that the Durston For Congress Fair Oaks Campaign Office had it's grand opening on Saturday, July12th. The office is located at 4148 Sunrise Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 (on the corner of Sunrise Blvd & Fair Oaks Blvd). We are located right next to the Sacramento County Democratic Party's Northeast Headquarters.

We will be doing phone banking almost every day of the week from our office. Just drop by anytime from 10 am - 6 pm (Mon - Sat) and from 12 noon - 5 pm on Sundays and help us reach out to likely voters in the 3rd Congressional District. The Bill Durston for Congress campaign continues full steam ahead towards the upcoming June 3 CA Primary. Although Bill has no opponent in his CD3 Democratic primary, he is not taking any voters for granted. The campaign has been setting up house parties and phone banking for the last several months. Durston got a late start in the 2006 campaign against his opponent, Republican incumbent Dan Lungren, but an early start in this cycle has already exceeded the accomplishments of the last campaign. Vice President Dick Cheney came to Sacramento--at the expense of local taxpayers!--a couple of weeks ago for a Lungren fundraiser. Lungren has given years of loyal service to the Bush administration and has embraced and voted for all of the Bush/Cheney policies. Speaking to reporters about the fundraiser, Lungren said of Cheney, “I happen to think he's one of the finest public servants we've had in my lifetime.”  [more]

Sacramento for Democracy, a Sacramento PDA chapter, held its endorsement meeting for California's 3rd Congressional District on Saturday afternoon, December 22nd. A lively and spirited discussion ensued, at the end of which Dr. Bill Durston was unanimously endorsed.

As a serious challenger to his opponent's politics of corruption and immorality (support for waterboarding and a 0% rating in 2005 by the League of Conservation Voters being two examples of many), Dr. Bill Durston stands in stark contrast with his promotion of a progressive agenda.

His irreproachable integrity, proven leadership, and unshakable belief in a different and better America earned him nearly 40% of the vote in 2006 in a district that had been written off by the DCCC as hopelessly Republican and unwinnable. (In actuality, the district has a high percentage of non-partisan voters.) A passionate, grassroots-only campaign proved that progressive values extend beyond partisan boundaries when the voters of the district were given the facts on where the men stood on the issues, and it also proved the viability of Bill's candidacy. In an April vote, PDA's Sacramento for Democracy chapter endorsed Bill Durston, M.D. for Congress in California's 3rd Congressional District. His candidacy gives voters a choice between incumbent Dan Lungren--a career politician in lockstep with the Bush Administration--and a challenger with combat-tested courage, unquestionable integrity, proven leadership, and a vision for a better future. Bill served with the Marines 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company in Vietnam and was decorated for bravery in combat. He subsequently became an emergency physician, and he is the past president of the Sacramento Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. He is also the injury-prevention chairperson of the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. [more]
