VA Progressive Democrats Endorse Hurst For Congress

Andrew Hurst

On Saturday, May 20, the Virginia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA-VA) enthusiastically endorsed Andrew Hurst, candidate for the June 13th primary in the 11th Congressional District of Virginia. The 11th includes portions of Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Fairfax.

An experienced attorney who has represented corporate clients, Andy Hurst is uniquely qualified to represent citizens of the 11th Congressional District to address growing corporate power, as well as to promote much-needed reform at the national level. Hurst will prove a formidable foe for Republican Representative Tom Davis.

"Andy Hurst is a progressive," said PDA-VA 11th CD point person Stephen L. Spitz. "He is a dynamic candidate who is not shy about challenging the Republican culture of corruption. The incumbent Congressman, as head of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, has raised substantial funds for Tom DeLay's right wing Congressional candidates. Andy is not accepting any PAC money."

Mr. Hurst has made fighting corruption a centerpiece of his candidacy, recognizing that it obstructs vital reform of health care, energy, and environmental policies. Andy supports the Murtha resolution to end the war in Iraq and advocates sweeping changes in the way this country conducts its defense and foreign policies. He is well aware of the gross abuse our troops have had to endure in terms of death, crippling injuries, extended and repeated tours of duty, "stop loss" orders, and inadequate veterans' benefits.

PDA-VA works both inside and outside of the Democratic Party for progressive changes in policies regarding the Iraq war, healthcare, the electoral process, the economy, and the environment, among other areas. Progressive Democrats of America urges all voters in the Virginia's 11th District to vote for Andy Hurst on June 13. Virginia needs Andy Hurst in Congress.
