Blue America PAC this week endorsed Marcy Winograd for Congress as their first endorsement of the campaign season. Blue America PAC is a political action committee under the umbrella of three popular bloggers–Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny, Johan Amato of Crooks and Liars, and Digby (aka Heather Parton) of Hullabaloo. To launch the endorsement, the bloggers invited Marcy to answer questions, blog live on Crooksandliars.com, and raise money for her campaign.
In making the endorsement on Saturday, January 16, blogger John Amato announced he would not run against Harman, something he had previously considered. Says Amato,“The fact that there is a great progressive candidate already in the race, a virtual model for the perfect Blue America candidate, makes me feel pretty confident that South Bay and West Side voters will get a real choice in the Democratic primary. That candidate is Marcy Winograd and I feel great giving her my endorsement.”
Blogger Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny described Marcy this way, “Marcy is a living, breathing progressive, not someone whose arm we're going to have to twist every time a tough vote comes up in Congress, not even someone whose hand we're going to have to hold when she thinks about doing the right thing. She's a proven leader for working families; that's why we're so excited about leading off with her this year.”
“Says Marcy, “I am thrilled to be Blue America PAC’s first endorsement of the year. I look forward to strengthening a vibrant neighbor-to-neighbor field campaign with solid netroots fundraising--all in an effort to promote a new Green economy that produces jobs, not wars, and offers Americans a better future.”
In 2008, Blue America raised almost a million dollars for progressive Democratic Party candidates. Says Klein, "The most we ever raised for a candidate in one cycle was for Donna Edwards, who, like Marcy was running against a treacherous reactionary Democrat in a re-match. Blue America raised $64,610.69 for Donna and there's no reason we shouldn't do at least as well for Marcy this cycle. Progressives expect Marcy to be as forceful a spokesperson for working families when she gets into Congress as Donna has been."
